My holiday in Vanuatu

MY HOLIDAY
The hot sun beat down on my back. Delicious buffet food settled in my tummy. Glided through clear blue waters. The hot wind in my face. This was the life in Vanuatu!

The sign said “Welcome to Vanuatu” in French I think, as we entered the airport. We had to wait in line for ages in a hot musty room. A bus picked us up to take us to our resort. Pools, buffets, tennis courts and so much more. One day I went to kids club and made a feather thingy. They did it all for me. Never went back again. Woke up in the morning feeling like I drank a sleep potion. Got my togs and out the door. I jumped in and froze my toes.

We went on a big trip. Secret gardens, Mele cascade waterfall and Hideaway Island. All in one day. The Secret gardens were terrible. All the animals were caged up when they should be in the wild. Really strange myths and legends. The whole family had an iguana on theirs arms. Mum and Dad had a snake around their necks. Tom and I were terrified, so we ran to the coconut crab. Which can grow to the height of a rubbish bin. We also went to the mele cascades waterfall. Trekked up a big hill while the hot sun blared down on us. We reached the top and went for a cooling swim. Mum found a secret cave! It was awesome because it was so small. I slipped down some rocks and hurt my knee plus my pants got wet. I was grumpy until we went to Hideaway Island. What a wonderful place. Fish were everywhere, even underneath us! I tried to post a waterproof postcard, but I couldn’t posses enough air. A miracle happened I did. I came up bursting for air. Yah!!! Dad and Tom came past pedaling a pedal boat. It looked like they were having fun. Then finally we took the shortish taxi ride home.

The Vanuatu market: fruit and veggies or clothes and knick knacks. First we went to clothes and knick knacks. Mum found this really cool bag. The lady said she made it herself, but moving on to the next stall, they had the same bag. LIARS!!! So many untidy stalls. Next market! A tall orange roof covered the fruit and veggies. People were sleeping on the hard concrete floor. It looked really uncomfortable!

Diving and gliding through the clear blue waters with a foggy snorkel mask on my face. This is what it was like at Blue Lagoon. Branches of trees submerged under the fresh blue water. Splash!! Water covered my face. What just happened? Oh that’s right Dad did a bomb off the rope swing. A big blue fish swam past me leaving everyone in awe. Taking the bumpy taxi ride back felt like a whole week because by that time I wanted to go home!!!

Going to Vanuatu was a huge journey for me. The different smells, food, broken, rickety taxis, and people. The first time I went to town, I felt really out of my comfort zone. But eventually it got better. I can’t wait to travel again.
